旧来マイナス思考と呼ばれた物のうち、心理学的にも有害と見なされているもの：

《全か無か思考》両極端な評価しかできない。完璧でないと認めない。
《破局的な見方》ちょっとしたことでも大きな災害にように大げさに考えてしまう。
《過度の一般化》一度かせいぜい数回程度の経験から、それが繰り返し起こると勝手に決め付けること。
《選択的抽出》一部の否定的情報だけを選び出して、他の情報は全く無視し勝手に物事を決め付けてしまう。
《ポジティブな側面の否認》成功しているのに、その中からわざわざダメな部分を探し出してくる。
《誇大視と極微視》物事を極端に誇張したり、逆に矮小化して捉える。双眼鏡的歪曲ともいう。
《感情的論法》物事が事実である証拠として自分の感情を引き合いに出してくる。
《「すべき」表現》”～すべき”“～しなければならない”と自分を駆り立てる。罪悪感で人を動機付けしようとする。
《レッテル貼り》誤りや不完全さを理由に、まるでそれがその人そのものであるかのように否定的な人間像を作り出すこと。
《自己関係付け》自分とは何の関係もない出来事を自分にとって意味があると考えること。
《独断的推論》事実と違う、あるいは全く事実無根の否定的な結論を独断的に引き出すこと。

以上のような、徹底的な分析と抽出により、あいまいさ・拡大解釈を排除している。
この概念があればマイナス思考という隙のある言葉は要らない。
