「村木局長は容疑を否認しているという。だが、障害者を守るべき立場の厚労省幹部が違法な金もうけに加担した疑いをもたれてしまった事実は重い」

「キャリア官僚の逮捕にまで発展し、事件は組織ぐるみの様相を見せている。なぜ不正までして便宜を図ったのか。何より知りたいのはそのことだ」

　以上は、昨年6月16日付の朝日新聞の社説からの引用だ。村木局長とは、厚生労働省の雇用均等・児童家庭局長を務めていた村木厚子のことだ。障害者団体向け郵便の不正事件に絡んで大阪地検特捜部が村木を逮捕したのを受け、朝日は社説で彼女と厚労省を厳しく批判したわけだ。

　それにしても、「疑いを持たれてしまった事実は重い」とは何なのか。「仮に無実であっても、検察に疑いを持たれたら反省しなければならない」という意味なのだろうか。
